Wireless earbuds and headphones now span a wide range of designs, from compact in-ear buds with active noise cancellation to full over-ear headphones built for long listening sessions. The right choice depends on where you use them, how much you value noise control, and which phone platform you rely on.
This guide compares AirPods models alongside a Beats option and renewed earlier generations. It focuses on fit, noise cancellation, and compatibility, so you can decide whether a current model is worth the premium or whether a renewed unit meets your needs.

How to Choose
- Noise cancellation: Active noise cancellation helps on trains, flights, and busy streets. Check whether the model includes it, since older generations and budget models often do not.
- Form factor: In-ear buds are light and portable. Over-ear headphones offer larger drivers and more comfort for long sessions but take up more space in a bag.
- Platform compatibility: Apple’s own earbuds unlock the most features on iPhone and Mac. Beats and other brands support Android and Apple devices, though some features may be limited.
- Battery and case: Check the listed earbud and case battery life. Wireless charging support on the case is a convenience rather than a performance upgrade.
- Renewed condition: Renewed units can save money, but confirm the battery health, the included case, and the return window.
The Best Picks Reviewed

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need noise cancellation?
It is most valuable on commutes, flights, and crowded spaces. If you mostly listen at home or at a desk, a model without it can be a good value.
Are AirPods good with Android phones?
They work with Android for basic audio and calls, but many features are limited to Apple devices. Beats and other brands may offer better cross-platform support.
Is a renewed pair safe to buy?
Yes, if the seller offers a clear return policy and a warranty. Ask for battery health details and confirm the included case and cable.
Over-ear or in-ear for travel?
In-ear buds are easier to pack and better for stop-start travel. Over-ear headphones are more comfortable for long flights but take more space.
Final Thoughts
For most iPhone users, the renewed AirPods 4 with noise cancellation and the renewed AirPods Pro offer the strongest value. The AirPods Max 2 suits home listening, the Beats Studio Buds+ suit mixed-platform users, and the renewed AirPods 2 cover budget needs without active noise cancellation.
